RICER – Closed Injuries
R – Rest – do not
move the injured site unnecessarily
I – Icing – apply ice to the injured site – “033 Principle”
0 – from the time of injury (0 hours)
3 – every three hours thereafter apply ice only (direct or indirect)
3 – for the first
three days (72 hours)
C – Compression – apply pressure at the injured site
either with the hands
or with the elastic bandage
E – Elevation – raise
the injured site to the level of the heart
R – Rehabilitation
– follow the rehabilitation procedures after adequate rest and healing period
for optimal recovery and normality
